Are you ready for Hurricane Season?

More than two dozen agencies, offering advice for what to do with your pets during a storm and how to get a ride to a shelter, will be on hand Wednesday when the city presents "R U Ready?" a free storm preparedness seminar.

The event runs from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the Donal M. Snyder Sr. Community Center, and will feature such agencies as the Humane Society of South Mississippi, Coast Transit, American Red Cross, Salvation Army, Mississippi Power, Coast Electric, a host of vendors offering information on how to prepare your home or business for storms or flooding, and emergency managers from the City of Biloxi, Harrison County and the state of Mississippi.

Also on hand will be members of the world-famous Hurricane Hunters, the squadron based at Keesler Air Force Base.

"We have a wide array of vendors — from all levels of government and the private sector — who will be on hand to offer a host of useful information for homeowners," said Biloxi Emergency Manager Michelle Crowley, who introduced the annual "R U Ready?" event last year.

"Our goal is to give people all of the information they need to prepare for a storm, and to answer any questions you might have," Crowley added. "It can be as simple as letting you know if you live in a flood zone or showing you steps you can take to minimize the risk you face from storms or flooding."
