Spring Break traffic affecting gates to Keesler.

The deadline to file your taxes is Monday, and accountants say taxpayers need to get on it or file an extension.If you can’t get things filed by the deadline, file for an extension..but remember the tax is due on the 15th even with an extension..or you’ll end up with penalties.

Republican Andy Taggart, a candidate for Mississippi Attorney General, is having to deal with a racist situation discovered in the 1979 Mississippi College yearbook. It shows him taking part in a saloon skit where he's seated playing poker with several other white males. The waiter was another white, but wearing blackface. The "Clarion Ledger" reports Taggart admits he's among those in the photo, but says quote, "it's not indicative of the way I've tried to live my life."

Due to the projected traffic associated with spring break, Keesler Air Force Base will be adjusting its gate operations April 11-15.

- Meadows Road Gate (Gate 1): Open to inbound and outbound traffic under 24 hour operations from Thursday morning, April 11 through 5:30 p.m. Monday, April 15.

- White Avenue Gate: Closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 11, and will remain closed until 5 a.m. Monday, April 15.

- Pass Road Gate: Will remain open 24 hours

- Visitor Center: Operations will move to Meadows Road Gate. The vetting process will remain the same. It is advised that base personnel attempt to get visitor passes issued during the week. Please be flexible as you may experience a longer than usual wait for a visitor pass due increased visitor traffic. 

Normal gate hours will resume normal hours of operation beginning Monday morning.

A Jackson Chick-fil-A worker named Karina is winning praise for her simple, but noteworthy, act of kindness earlier this week. She was working the cash register when a man who only had five dollars to make a purchase stepped up trying to figure out what to get. Karina offered suggestions, but in the end, told the man not to worry, that his breakfast was on her. The encounter Monday was posted on social media by Robert Gooch who was picking up lunch for a doctor's office.

President Trump is accusing Democrats who oppose his border policies of treason. Trump tweeted, "their Open Border mindset is putting our country at risk." Trump said he won't let that happen. Customs and Border Protection reports more than 100-thousand encounters last month with illegal immigrants trying to get into the U.S.

NASA will release the results of its astronaut twin study today. Retired astronaut Scott Kelly spent 340 days on the International Space Station in 2015 and 2016, while his identical twin brother, astronaut Mark Kelly, stayed on Earth. Their genetic similarities gave a scientists a control group to study what changes Scott Kelly went through during his long-term space mission. NASA will share the results of the study at 2pm Eastern.
