Saquon Barkley Cancels Interview With Dan Patrick After Making Crucial Drop

Dan Patrick: “We were scheduled to have Saquon Barkley on and as soon as he dropped that ball I said to myself ‘we’re probably not having Saquon Barkley on.’... This is tough, Fritzy is booking people, they have a game the night before, and this was a sponsored booking. He was going to be on because he was selling a product. Then I said this morning when I came in ‘it’s probably wise if Saquon doesn’t join us.’ I understood it.
First of all, if you’re the sponsor and you’re paying him to endorse you, people aren’t going to be focused on the product, they’re going to be focused on the fact Saquon is on a show right after this drop, right after this loss, and he’s selling something to America. I get it.
We’ve been doing this 25 years. I can probably tell you on one hand the amount of times I’ve heard from an athlete that you had to cancel. It’s very, very rare that you hear from an athlete. You might hear from a PR person, you might hear from a sponsor, but Saquon texted the show, said he was sorry, and said he’ll do his best to make it up to us. That’s a classy move. That doesn’t surprise me, from our interactions he seems like a really good guy, good kid. The fact he reached out and said that; he didn’t have to do that, but I do appreciate that and we will try to have him on at an appropriate time.
I’d like to have him on where I can do an interview and have a conversation with him; not interrogate him over dropping the ball. Because there’s only so many ways you can ask ‘WHAT WERE YOU THINKING??’"

Dan Patrick discusses his reaction to first hearing that Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley was cancelling his Tuesday appearance on The Dan Patrick Show just a day after Barkley's critical late fourth quarter drop led to the Falcons' game-winning touchdown drive.

With Philadelphia beating the Falcons by three points with less than two minutes to go, Barkley dropped a crucial third-down pass that would have netted Philadelphia a first-down and allowed them to run out the clock. Instead, Barkley’s drop led to an Eagles field goal, followed by a miraculous two-minute drill touchdown by the Falcons to steal one on the road.

Check out the segment above as Dan commends Barkley for having the decency to directly contact the show to let them know he wasn’t going to make it given how disastrous last night was for him.
