The shooter who opened fire at a Republican Congressional baseball practice this morning volunteered for the Bernie Sanders' presidential campaign. Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders issued a statement following the shooting today, saying the shooter, James Hodgkinson, was a volunteer on his 2016 presidential election bid. Sanders said he was sickened by the despicable act and condemned the violence in the "strongest possible terms." He said real change can only come through non-violent action and anything else runs against American values. Sanders offered his prayers to House Majority Whip Steve Scalise who was wounded in the shooting and thanked Capitol Police for their heroic actions against Hodgkinson. Hodgkinson is said to have been a Sanders supporter and was strongly opposed to President Trump and former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
