West Harrison Hurricane Band will be marching in the 131st Rose Parade® presented by Honda, on January 1, 2020, in Pasadena, California. West Harrison is only the second high school band from Mississippi chosen for the prestigious parade in the last 20 years.
Tournament of Roses President Laura Farber will visit Mississippi on Saturday, August 3, to officially invite “The Pride of South Mississippi” to participate in the Rose Parade with a flag presentation ceremony at West Harrison High School.
The band was formed from FEMA grant money after Hurricane Katrina ravaged the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The school also serves as a FEMA-certified hurricane shelter. With a school population of just over 1,000, there are more than 200 students in the band. The band’s motto is, “Be a great musician, be a better person.”
